DOTHAN – The APA of SW Georgia and SE Alabama Pool League, sanctioned by the American Poolplayers Association (APA), is now forming teams throughout Houston county in Alabama and Miller, Early, Seminole and Decatur counties in Georgia under the guidance of franchisee Beth Whittington.

“We’re excited to bring APA League Play to the area.  Pool is a great way to have fun while getting to know new people,” said Whittington.

Each APA Pool League team consists of five to eight amateur players who compete seasonally or year-round in weekly league play. The APA’s copyrighted handicap system, The Equalizer®, gives amateur players the opportunity to compete equally with players of different levels of skill. By participating in weekly league play, members can qualify to compete in three National Championships that award nearly $1.5 million in guaranteed cash and prizes every year.

The APA, based in Lake Saint Louis, Mo., sanctions the world’s largest amateur pool league, known as the APA Pool League throughout the United States, as the Canadian Pool League in Canada, as Japan Pool League in Japan and as the American Poolplayers Association of China.   More than 270,000 members compete in weekly 8-Ball and 9-Ball league play.   The APA is generally recognized as the Governing Body of Amateur Pool, having established the official rules, championships, formats and handicap systems for the sport of amateur billiards.

The APA produces three major tournaments each year—the APA National Team Championships, the APA National Singles Championships and the U.S. Amateur Championship—that, together, pay out nearly $1.5 Million in cash and prizes annually. In 2010, the APA National Team Championships were recognized by Guinness World Records as the “world’s largest pool tournament.”

The APA and its National Championships are sponsored by Pool Dawg, Aramith and Action Cues.

For more information or to get signed up with the APA, please contact Beth at 850-443-0019 or by email [email protected]. Or you can visit the official APA website at poolplayers.com
