Angel of Hope - Please Help Make This A Reality

Steve Hardwick started a number of years ago baking pound cakes. He would pick someone, drop by and leave them a pound cake telling them he hoped they had a great day.

As each day grew Steve watched as families were suddenly struck with illnesses. Without warning families lives were turned upside down. Many of those involved children being struck with a illness.

From that Steve started cooking pound cakes selling them to raise money for families who had been struck with the illness.

The cakes were sold for $ 35.00 each. Steve paid for the ingredients himself and 100% of the $ 35.00 paid for each cake went to those Steve was helping.

Along the others would help Steve in baking the cakes. They are baked in his kitchen, one by one. And hundreds of cakes. Others would help baking in their homes.

Many of those Steve helped he never met until he delivered the money to them. But Steve has raised thousands of dollars for families who have had their lives turned upside down, suddenly.

Steve has been burdened by the children that lost their life early. He has taken on as a project to raise money in honor and memory of all children who left the earthly home early in life. Steve’s vision is for a statue Angel of Hope. It would be a central place people from all over could visit to remember those children who have passed away.

THE ANGEL OF HOPE

I would like to tell you about a little angel that is so beautiful and so meaningful to thousands across the world. This little angel is known as " The Angel Of Hope Statue " or many of you may remember as the "The Christmas Box Angel Statue" as it is sometimes referred to.

The Angel was introduced to the world in the book The Christmas Box, a worldwide bestseller and hit television movie by author Richard Paul Evans.

In the book a woman mourns the loss of her child at the base of an angel monument. Though the story is mostly fiction, the angel monument once existed but was lost in the 1984 Salt Lake City flood.

A new bronze statue was commisioned by the author in response to reports that grieving parents were seeking out the angel as a place to grieve and heal. The first angel monument was dedicated in Salt Lake City in 1994.

Since this time, over 120 other angel monuments have been dedicated across the country and around the world with more being built. After the tsunami hit the coast of Japan not that long ago and wiped out thousands of people a Angel of Hope Statue was erected there in memory of all the children lost from the flood.

The four foot tall bronze statue of a little girl angel with arms reaching outward provides comfort to those who grieve. It helps families and other visitors to remember and pay tribute to those children, regardless of age, whose parents and families must go on without them.

I believe that the Angel of Hope Memorial Garden could serve as an important need in the Dothan community now and in the future. I have decided that I along with the help of others can bring this beautiful Angel to Dothan.

So soon I will begin a fundraiser to bring this Angel of Hope to our community so that those in our communtity who have lost their children will have a place to be comforted and to grieve.

I hope you will follow the Angel Of Hope fundraiser and tell all of those who you think will be interested in helping to donate to this wonderful project. It is time that Dothan and the surrounding communites have a permanent reminder of the children our community has lost from illnesses or other tragedies so that they may never be forgotten.
