HOUSTON COUNTY: Until several years ago it was my policy not to cover suicide deaths. However there is a growing epidemic. Sometimes there are signs and often times they are not signs.
Please note my family has experienced suicides so I write with some knowledge.
This morning Houston County Sheriff Department investigated a suicide of a 17 year Ashford/Cowarts youth. The young man was a senior at Ashford High School. He was set to graduate in a few weeks. Reports I get he was in the top 10 of his class, a very sweet and kind young man. He was a son his parents were proud of, a young man that his friends and their parents were proud of.
I did not know the young man. However many who have called me this morning are in shock. From the ones who have called me, NO ONE saw this coming. It is a shock.
The young man was a good young man who, according to friends, would be sucessful in life.
The Houston County Sheriff Department found him in a field off of Cottonwood Road. He was reported missing and Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza put investigators on it until they found him.
SUICIDES - a preventable act, but often times undetected.
What is the answer? Good question. However, it is a question that someone who pretends to be a leader in the community needs to grab a hold of and work on. We have had to many sucides and threats of suicides. Daily EMS and law enforcement are responding to threats and attempts of suicides. Daily and multiple calls.
My job is to ALERT there is a problems. Churches from all walks of faith, counselors, political leaders, SOMEONE needs to be a leader, step up to the plate, and begin aggressive actions over suicides.
TO THOSE THINKING ABOUT SUICIDE - STOP.... seek help. The act is permanenat solution to a temporary problem. And while you commit the act, you leave a life of hell for your family and friends afterwards.
PRAYERS to the family. PRAYERS to Ashford High School Family and Senior Class.
