ASHFORD - HOUSTON COUNTY: Moments ago a tense situation has ended safe.
Ashford Police and Houston County Sheriff Department have been behind a subject that began on Third Street in Ashford. The subject was threatening to shoot any law enforcement officers that approached him and kill himself.
The subject carried the officers from Ashford to Lucy Grade back to Cowarts. The subject then ended up on Glenn Lawrence Road. There were some tense moments as a school bus was approached that was stopped picking up school children.
Houston County Sheriff Captain Jeff Carlisle made contact with the suspect by telephone and was able to talk the suspect into peacefully stopping at Glenn Lawrence Road and Highway 55. The subject peacefully surrendered to authorities without incident.
Houston County Andy Hughes was on the phone with the patrol supervisor and certain plans were being put into place for the safety of the subject and officers. For any future incidents I will not disclose those plans.
Ashford Police Brunson Chief Stanley were involved in this situation. Houston County Sheriff Sgt. Tracey Ward, Deputy Allen Henrickson, Deputy Ricky Herring and Deputy Drew Hicks are some of the officers involved that did a good job in containing what could otherwise been a very tragic situation.
Matt Boster was on the scene for RSN.
