Ashford police chief Jim Stanley submitted his resignation to the city council Monday night, effective April 15. “It’s time to sit back and smell the roses,” he told WDHN.
Stanley, a retired Dothan officer, has spent about six years in Ashford. He was recently suspended by Mayor Johnathon Grecu for reasons not publicly divulged. However, the issue involved the filing of vacation requests according to previous DothanFirst reports.Stanley was later reinstated.
A 35-year law enforcement officer, Stanley dismissed the notion the suspension is related to his resignation. “I’m 63 years old and recently purchased a bass boat and it’s time to use it,” he said. “I’m tired and it was time to make this choice while I’m still young enough to enjoy life. I have been thinking about this for a while.”
Stanley retired from the Dothan police department in 2004 where he served in multiple capacities including criminal investigator.
He said while his resignation will be effective April 15 he’ll essentially leave the job March 25. “I’ve got some leave time and will use that between then and the 15th,” he said.
