Starting Wednesday, sending text messages while driving will net you a fine of $25.


Among the drivers adjusting to it: Rep. Jim McClendon, R-Springville, who sponsored the legislation banning the practice.


McClendon said last week he’s worked hard to stop himself from texting while driving and has heard supportive messages from other lawmakers.


“What’s interesting is to hear fellow legislators say it’s a relief to leave the thing laying in the seat while driving in Montgomery,” he said.
