To whom it may concern;

I would like to begin this by stating that I, in no way, intend to offend anyone. However, if you find yourself offended by what I have to say, I refuse to offer any kind of apology. I stand by my beliefs and convictions.

My daughter informed me tonight that her history class is currently studying Islam. She was extremely upset because of the material being covered. She told me that she was required to write the shahada and the five pillars of Islam. I have much to say regarding all of this. Firstly, I have informed my daughter that she is not to write or repeat the shahada ever again. This is religious indoctrination, and is in direct violation of her religious beliefs and her constitutional freedoms. I have explained that she will not be punished for insubordination or not participating. My straight A student is so upset knowing that the test she will have take on this material will impact her grades. However, she understands that her grades will never take precedence over her rights and freedoms.

She told me that Christianity was covered as well; her class was taught about disciples, apostles, and the crucifixion. However, they were not required to write that Jesus is our Savior, the Son of God, born of a virgin, and is the Way, the Truth, and the Light. I would never coerce a non Christian to write that down. Do you see the disconnect? I am not forcing my religion down anyone's throat, nor trying to indoctrinate them into my belief system.

I am directly protesting the material that Common Core is brainwashing my daughter with. She will not be forced to write or recite the shahada again. I will find a lawyer or an organization willing to assist me in proving that you are directly violating her Constitutional rights and religious freedoms by asking her to participate in anything that goes directly against her religious beliefs.

If you plan on teaching my daughter how to convert to Islam as a continuation of this lesson in coercion and propaganda, then I kindly request that you let me know. I will be happy to keep my daughter home to preserve her religious rights.

I hope that you understand how it feels as a parent, to watch the school and teachers that are developing the mind of your most precious gift, take it upon themselves to be religious tyrants. I trust that my daughter's rights and well being are in good hands at her school. Today, you have proved otherwise, to myself, and to many other Christian parents.

Sincerely,
Rachel Cox.
