(DOTHAN, AL, June 15, 2014) – Flowers Hospital recently received accreditation designation through August 27, 2016 by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). This accreditation validates that the Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery at Flowers Hospital meets the needs of bariatric surgery patients by providing multidisciplinary, high-quality, patient-centered care. The accreditation process is a thorough one, with extensive review of quality data and on-site inspections.
Metabolic and bariatric surgical procedures have been shown to reduce obesity, improve mortality, and decrease the health risks from chronic diseases, as evidenced in more than 20 years of peer-reviewed publications. With over 18 million people in the United States suffering from severe obesity, Flowers Hospital wants to answer the call to action to address obesity as a national public health issue.
Dr. Scott Robbins and Dr. Brad Marker are proud to be a part of this winning team. "Accreditation as a center ofexcellence separates us from other hospitals in the region in the field of bariatric and weight loss surgery. It is an honor, and serves as evidence of our continuing efforts to provide the safest and most effective means of surgical weight loss for all of our patients and their families in the Wiregrass and surrounding areas," said Dr. Marker.
