PANAMA CITY — According to the News Herald - The Bay County Commission passed an emergency ordinance on Tuesday banning drinking on the beach in the unincorporated area until April 18 and expressed a desire that the Beach Council follow suit.
In the emergency meeting to address crime problems involving Spring Break, and in reaction to a shooting at a Spring Break party this past week involving 7 people, the commission voted to do what the Beach Council has balked at doing so far out of fear that it could kill Spring Break. The ordinance would ban drinking from March 1-April 18 in 2016 and moving forward if the Commission votes to make it permanent at its next meeting in May.
