The Tri-State BBQ Festival offers numerous chances to sample different foods and drinks (for example, the free Blue Bell treats, the Cheerwine samples, the spices, sauces and seasonings vendors and the whole hog sampling to name a few). But, one of the favorite places to sample lots of barbecue is the Academy Sports+Outdoors People's Choice Tasting Tent on Saturday April 11th from 2:30-4pm. This tent area is to the right of the main stage, and is sponsored through the generosity of our sponsor Academy Sports+Outdoors. There is no extra cost for festival-goers to attend the Tasting Tent on Saturday, and you can sample up to 40 different barbecue samples from the competing teams.

People entering the tent can get pulled pork samples from the various teams that are competing in both the professional and backyard divisions of the barbecue competition. Then, after sampling all the various pulled pork entries, people can vote for their favorite one by using the ballot that is printed on the back of their Saturday ticket. The winning team receives $250 in cash for their efforts at the end of the event.

Because of the popularity of this tasting, there usually is a little bit of a line, and the 600 pounds of meat (no kidding!) runs out usually in an hour or so. The Academy Sports+Outdoors tasting tent is only open from 2:30 until the meat runs out (usually about 60-90 minutes) and you can only vote for your favorite until 4:30 when the ballot box closes. Voting is also in the People's Choice tasting tent area.

The Tri-State BBQ Festival is April 10-11 at the Houston County Farm Center on the Circle in Dothan, Alabama. It will be the 10th Tri-State BBQ festival and this year it is part of the Year of Alabama Barbecue from the State of Alabama Tourism board. There is also live music, a bicycle stunt show, a reptile discovery program, free bounce houses for the kids, a whole hog cooking demonstration and a car show on Saturday that is all free once you are inside the gate. Friday night is the BBQ Bash, a yard party and concert featuring the R&B stylings of Legacy. Admission at the gate is $10 per person per day and children 6 and under are free.
