HOUSTON COUNTY:    With the resignation of Andy Hughes as Houston County Sheriff, there comes the challenge of “who” will be the new Sheriff.

There will be several that place their names in the hat for Houston County Sheriff. There will be several which will be good choices.

There is one which I do not know if he will place his name in the hat for Sheriff. But he should.

He was worked for four consecutive Houston County Sheriff’s. He started under Sheriff A.B. Clark as a jailer. During Sheriff Clark administration he was promoted to Deputy.

He then worked under Sheriff Lamar Hadden. And he was promoted to Sergeant.

He then worked for Sheriff Lamar Glover and was promoted to Lieutenant.

He then worked for Sheriff Andy Hughes and was promoted to Chief Deputy. A position he has served in for the past 8 years.

He is a man that gets out day and night to work. He is a man that deputies know will LEAD them into a situation or will be at the command post and command the situation.

He is a man that if you have a crime, you would want to investigate it. Because the case will be put together correctly.  And all parties will be treated fair.

He is a man if you go into a dangerous situation, you want by your side. Because he has experience, ability, knowledge, patience, and been in the trenches. He has placed his life on the line in many situations.

He will formulate a detailed plan in order to peacefully resolve dangerous situations.

He was worked from the bottom to the top and knows all aspects of the Sheriff Department and duties.

He is has graduated from the FBI National Academy.

He is a family man. He is actively involved in his children and their lives.

He takes time to talk with people.

However, he is a man that runs from the spotlight. He was involved in the Dale County Ethan situation. But not in the cameras.

He has been loyal to Sheriff Clark, Sheriff Hadden, Sheriff Glover and Sheriff Hughes. And as important as his loyalty to each Sheriff, more importantly he has been loyal to the citizens and guests of Houston County.

He has placed his life on the line in order to save lives. He thinks before he acts, and is conscious of decisions made and the affects of those decisions.

Who is this person?

His name is Houston County Sheriff Chief Deputy Donald Valenza.

I do not know if Donald Valenza will apply or not.

But Donald Valenza has only been in the media for doing his job. He has never been in any trouble. Never caused any trouble. Worked in each division of the Sheriff Department.

When there has been a situation throughout the years, you will hear him call in service and respond.

And the men and women know, like they have with Sheriff Hughes, there is a man that will place their life on the line in order to serve and protect both the officer and the public.

The Houston County Republican Executive Committee needs to know Donald Valenza. Someone needs to make sure that Donald Valenza places his name on the list. And the committee needs to look very serious at  him.

Houston County is at a time where things are running smooth. The work relationship with other agencies is going well. As Chief Deputy, Valenza has been actively involved  in working with Sheriff Hughes in making that work smooth.

While these comments are favorable towards Valenza, they are not meant to say others would not do a good job.

But as someone that has known Donald Valenza since he started under Sheriff Clark, and through each Sheriff, I know his work ethic and dedication.

Donald Valenza would be a choice that the people of Houston County will be happy with.
