Dothan: The Dothan Rotary Club’s keynote speaker today was Allison Wetherbee, the Director of Public Relations for the Alabama Special Camp for Childrens and Adults. Camp ASCCA provides therapeutic recreation for both children and adults with both physical and mental disabilities. Wehterbee can relate with those with disabilities, and provide a positive roll model for them. She was born with neither arms or legs, but that never held her back from earning a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling.
According to Wetherbee, the camp, located on Lake Martin, offers horseback riding, swimming, canoeing, fishing, arts and crafts, rappelling, water tubing and more for ages 6 to 96. The camp is affiliated with Easter Seals, and is supported in large part by contributions. Wetherbee said that 90% of those attending the camp need financial assistance, but that no one is ever turned down for lack of money.
The camp is open year round. Click Here for more information on Camp ASCCA, and click Here to learn more about Allison Whetherbee.
