Big Donation to Chrysalis Girls! A Piano!

Mr. Larry Latta of Latta Music at 3332 West Main in Dothan, AL 36305 (a few blocks west of Westgate Parkway, on the right) has donated a piano to the Chrysalis Home for Girls. He has long been an advocate of music and music education in the community and wanted to help the Chrysalis girls when he learned their old piano could no longer hold a tune.

 

The Zonta Club of Dothan has supported Chrysalis for decades so Zonta member Dr. Jennifer Marsden asked Mr. Dennis Glover to tune their old piano. He did his best but it needed major repairs so we have been looking for a replacement- he and I had our ears out for a piano able to hold a proper tune. When I spoke to Chris and Larry Latta about this need Mr. Latta stepped up to give them a modern one in great shape so we consider this gift a real blessing!

 

Mr. Glover moved the piano and is tuning it today with extra care but one of the girls already had her first lesson (from Dr. M’s daughter) once it got there. Dr. Marsden’s family paid for the move and the last tuning and are transporting the old one to piano heaven with the loan of Mr. Glover’s equipment.

 

Zonta, Latta Music, and Mr. Glover encourage other families and businesses in Dothan to support Chrysalis and other charitable organizations with their donations. We could use a volunteer for 1-2 hours weekly after school to teach piano to the girls at Chrysalis or money to pay a professional piano teacher for this. The House of Ruth needs furniture in good shape and many organizations Zonta supports need school supplies and ladies’ clothes in good condition and toiletries. We are also collecting ladies’ shoes (in any condition) for our Campaign Against Domestic Violence project.
