Last spring eighth grade students from Beverlye Magnet School participated in “The Shark Tank,” a Project Based Learning experience. As a result, one of the winners, Brian Wesley, uncovered a strong desire from the students to start an art program at Beverlye. Brian began a partnership with the Cultural Arts Center and BeverlyeMagnet School to apply for art grants. Although we did not receive full funding, the partial funding has allowed eighth grade students to participate in art lessons three days a week during their school day.
The lessons are taught by an art instructor in collaboration with the regular classroom teachers. Lessons are aligned with Alabama’s College and Career Ready Standards and are taught through language arts, science, social studies, and math classes on weekly rotations.
The Dothan Education Foundation and Beverlye Magnet School are proud of this accomplishment and want to recognize Brian in helping to bring art back to Beverlye.
