According to (WSFA) Officials say the body found by a grass-cutting crew on I-10 could possibly be a hit-and-run victim.
Deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office first responded to the scene at roughly 1 p.m. Monday. The crew located the body along I-10 in the median near the overpass located between Prairieville and Gonzales.
While at least a dozen investigators were out processing the scene for about five hours, Louisiana State Police is taking the lead in the investigation.
Crime scene investigators with both LSP and APSO as well as investigators with the Ascension Parish Coroner's Office are working to determine the exact cause of death and time of death along with the identity of the victim. Around 5:40 p.m., the coroner's van was at the scene to remove the body for autopsy.
Lt. Col. Bobby Webre with APSO said early signs indicate this could be a case of hit and run. Webre said that the body appears to be that of a female and had been there for several days, likely Friday or Saturday.
