Dive teams from the Okaloosa, Walton, and Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of 30 year old Destin resident Jerry Dean "JD" Lee late this afternoon from the Gulf Of Mexico.

Lee had disappeared while reportedly free diving for sand dollars yesterday in about thirty-five feet of water behind Coral Reef Club Condominiums, 2798 Scenic Highway 98 in Destin.

Two juveniles who had been riding on a waverunner with Lee say he got off the vessel and went under to find sand dollars, but never resurfaced.

His body was found around 4:30 this afternoon in the same general area where he disappeared.

The Okaloosa Sheriff’s Office wants to thank all who assisted in the search, including the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, Coast Guard, Destin Fire Department, Beach and Safety Personnel, and Florida Fish and Wildlife representatives.
