DOTHAN– Breakers of Dothan, AL finished 257th in the 2015 APA 9-Ball National Team Championship, conducted by the American Poolplayers Association (APA) on Aug. 13-17 at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino.

Breakers are members of the local APA 9-Ball League and became eligible to compete in the National Team Championships by participating in weekly league play and placing at the top of their division during the summer, fall or spring sessions. At the conclusion of the spring session, Breakers advanced to the National Team Championship by qualifying at their Local Team Championship. 466 North American teams comprised the APA 9-Ball National Team Championship field.

Breakers participated in weekly league play at Blue Bar and Bo’s Billiards in Dothan. Team members include: Phyllis Owens, Captain; Larry Severson, Co-Captain; Steve Cope; Richard Walker; Larry Solomon; and Lee Smith.

The APA, based in Lake Saint Louis, Mo., sanctions the world’s largest amateur pool league, known as the APA Pool League throughout the United States and as the Canadian Pool League in Canada.   More than 250,000 members compete in weekly 8-Ball and 9-Ball League play.   The APA is generally recognized as the Governing Body of Amateur Pool, having established the official rules, championships, formats and handicap systems for the sport of amateur billiards.

The APA produces three major tournaments each year—the APA National Team Championships, the APA National Singles Championships and the U.S. Amateur Championship—that, together, pay out nearly $1.5 Million in cash and prizes annually. In 2010, the APA National Team Championships were recognized by Guinness World Records as the “world’s largest pool tournament.”

The APA and its National Championships are sponsored by PoolDawg, Aramith and Action Cues.

For more information or to get signed up with the APA, please contact Beth at 850-443-0019 or by email at [email protected].   Or you can visit the official APA website at poolplayers.com.
