UPDATE @ 11:36 AM: Body Found Dead In Henry County Investigated As A Homicide

HEADLAND: Early this morning Headland Police responded to County Road 83 to reports of a shots fired and a possible burglary. When the officer arrived a body was found dead on the scene.
Investigators from Headland Police and Henry County - Abbeville Task Force are responding to the scene as is Headland Police Chief Mark Jones and Henry County Sheriff Will Maddox. Henry County Coroner Derek Wright has been dispatched to the scene.
Preliminary information at this time is a homeowner caught someone stealing around his barn and confronted a suspect. Our preliminary information the homeowner is the one killed with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Again, this is preliminary information because all of the investigators are responding and just arriving on the scene so the circumstances could change.
At this time we do not know if the suspect is still on the scene or was apprehended, or if the suspect received any injuries.
County Road 83 runs off Highway 134 north of Headland.
As soon as more information is available we will update.

The Houston County Sheriff's Office Regional Crime Scene Unit has just arrived on scene to assist in the investigation. At the request of Henry County Sheriff Will Maddox, Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes dispatched the Regional Crime Scene Unit and two investigators to assist with crime scene investigation.
Preliminary information, from UNOFFICIAL SOURCES, say the homeowner called 911 that he had someone stealing his farm equipment. When officers arrived they found the homeowner dead.
The area is sealed off as investigators conduct their investigation.

All agencies are still on the scene conducting the investigation. Agencies include Headland Police, Henry County Sheriff Department, Henry County - Abbeville Task Force, Houston County Sheriff Investigators, Alabama Bureau of Investigation and Henry County Coroner Derek Wright.
The area is sealed off and investigators are combing the area for evidence.
The deceased has been identified as 46 year old Mike Johnson.
