BARBOUR COUNTY: Barbour County Sheriff Leroy Upshaw has confirmed that a body has been found, deceased, in Barbour County. The body was located in the woods off Sutton Diary Road.
Sheriff Upshaw said they could not confirm the identity of the deceased at this time. Sheriff Upshaw said the area where the body was found has been secured as a crime scene. Forensic evidence is being recovered from the scene.
Barbour County Sheriff Department has been in a search for a missing person by the name of Willie Pugh. Sheriff Upshaw said at this point they can not say this body is that of Pugh. The body will be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences Lab in Montgomery where a autopsy will be completed and forensic evidence will be recovered. At that time the Forensic Medical Examiner will make positive identification of the body.
Sheriff Upshaw did confirm the body found was a death from foul play. Barbour County Coroner Chip Chapman is on the scene.
Assisting the Barbour County Sheriff Department in the search of Willie Pugh for over a week has been multiple agencies, to include the air unit of Dale County Sheriff Department. Also volunteer agencies from Henry County Rescue Unit, Regional Land and Water Rescue, Liberty County Florida Search and Rescue, Wausau Search and Rescue, and Debbie Goebels K-9 has searched for the missing person Willie Pugh. If this is Pugh, the members have helped. If this is not Pugh, they will continue to help.
Barbour County Sheriff Investigators continue their investigation into the case. Shortly after the report of the missing person Pugh's car was found behind an abandoned residence in Barbour County.
