DOTHAN: Dothan Police and Houston County Sheriff's Deputies are in pursuit of a white ford expedition. Dothan Police stopped the vehicle around Alexander Drive for speeding, but when the officer questioned the driver about the smell Marijuana coming from the vehicle the driver took off. The chase went up and down side streets around South Range to Selma to 3rd ave and then down Headstream Drive. A Houston County Deputy got behind the suspect and a Dothan Police supervisor told Dothan units to back off a little and let the Deputy take the pursuit.
Once the Deputy took over the pursuit the chase came to an end at the Circle and Headstream Drive. With less than a minute after taking over the pursuit the deputy pitted the vehicle and brought the pursuit to an end. Dothan Fire Engine 4 was dispatched to check out the driver. The pursuit speeds never went over 40 mph, but it took the sheriff's Deputy to stop the vehicle by using the pit maneuver.
NOTE: Dothan Police are no longer allowed to use the pit maneuver due to accreditation of CLEA.
