COWARTS:     At 6:45 AM Houston County 911 dispathced a structure fire at 83 Clairmont Drive in Cowarts. The road is off Highway 84 near Efurd's.

Responding to the scene is Cowarts Volunteer Fire and Ashford Volunteer Fire along with Ashford Rescue.

Ashford Police Chief Jim Stanley was the first officer on the scene and he reported the residence was unoccupied.

Heavy smoke was coming from the house on the arrival of fireman.

There was a 2 inch water hydrant down the street but it is not large enough to pump water. Additinal assistance was called to the scene being Lovetown Volunteer Fire and Webb Volunteer Fire. The water tanker from Lovetwon was called to the scene for water. Manpower was a issue.

UPDATED @ 7:32 AM

Multiple fire agencies and volunteer fireman from across the east side of the county are on the scene. Water continues to be an issue and water is being shuttled from Highway 84 to the scene.

Flames are coming from the roof of the house.

Houston County Sheriff Deputies Nowell and Martin are on the scene.

NOTE:  Whatever, whoever is in charge of the water on Clairmont Drive in Cowarts. FIX IT! The hydrant is not large enough to supply water for the fire engines to fight the fire.

If you are going to take the money for the water, then put in ample supply line for emergencies. If not, get out of the water business and turn it over to someone who will!!!!

UPDATED @ 1:19 PM

After some checking on the water systems, it has been determined the water system in question belongs to Avon. The water system is not - repeat - is not the City of Cowarts water system.

Avon has no fire department. The residence on fire is in the City of Cowarts. However, Cowarts or Ashford handle the fires in Avon because they have no fire department, no police department, or any emergency service agency.

So to Avon, UPGRADE the water system if you are going to continue to charge the people for water. If not, then get rid of it.
