he 11th Circuit Court of Appeals just granted a stay of execution for a man convicted of killing a Mobile police officer in 1985.



Vernon Madison was convicted of killing Mobile police officer Julius Schulte in 1985.    


Madison was scheduled to be executed Thursday, May 12, but filed a petition contending that he is mentally incompetent to be executed.
