DOTHAN: Kindergarten and first graders will spend time with their dads and other important male role models during Donuts with Dads on Tuesday, September 27 at 8:45 am at Selma Street Elementary.

“Last year’s Donuts with Dads was very rewarding. The kids were so proud to introduce their dads to friends and teachers,” said Bright Key® Resource Coordinator Jennifer Campbell. “However, realistically we knew not every child would have a dad there so we invited the Dothan Police Department and some of their Community Impact officers. They were super heroes to these children,” she added.

Campbell says she has volunteers from the Dothan Police and Fire Departments, flight instructors from Fort Rucker and various military servicemen from the Wiregrass again this year. “We want every child to feel special, loved and celebrated. And having someone there to sit and eat with them, especially a man in uniform who is a role model, certainly seems to do the trick.”

As the men and the children enjoy their breakfast together, community activist and speaker Kriss Doss will share some encouraging words. From challenging the fathers to stay connected with their children to inspiring the students to continue working hard in school, Doss celebrates fathers and children.

Others from the Wiregrass are also participating. The Episcopal Church of the Nativity, ACOM students, Saint James Baptist Church and A.C.E. Counseling are volunteering and sponsoring the event.

ABOUT BRIGHT KEY

Bright Key®, a concept turning public schools into energized centers for services by adding programs focusing on the whole child, including his/her school, family and community, was approved in 2014 by the Dothan City School Board. The school meetings are structured to allow the stakeholders to express what programs and opportunities they believe are needed for their child and school.
