HENRY COUNTY - LAKE EUFAULA:   When March kicked off the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers opened the campgrounds for the summer. That was great.

However, like Hardridge Creek, the Corp did not open the boat ramp at Hardridge Creek. The boat ramp remained clsoed and the boaters had to travel to Highland Park in order to launch their boats.

Until recent years Hardridge Creek boat ramp did not have attendants in the guard station at the boat ramp. It was an honor system for the boaters who launched their boats. Most of the regular boaters purchase a 12 month pass rather than the launch fee each time they use the ramp.

Then the economic wizards of the Eufaula Division and/or Mobile Division figured they would hire full time people to manage the gate of the ramp to collect the launch fees. This winter the Corp closed the ramps and campgrounds on Lake Eufaula, except for the launching ramp at Highland Park.

The launching ramp has now been open, one month following the opening of Hardridge Creek campground.

The Corp has beautiful lake front property in Clay County for their offices. Yet they build another office for the boss in Eufaula. The Corp does not maintain the parks, they contract the maintenance, to include emptying of garbage cans out.

In the winter months the water level is great and makes the lake safe for boaters. This past summer the level was at dangerously low water levels for boaters.

Complaints to U.S. Representative Martha Roby about the Corp, well you get no help. Complaints to U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions, no help. And U.S. Senator Richard Shelby, he can't help for telling you how important he is.

So, the people who pay a lot of money for nice places on the lake ( I did not pay a lot of money for a nice place, I have a travel trailer ) have to suffer through low water. Hopefully Roby, Sessions and Shelby have addressed the issue and will make them keep the water level at a safe and comfortable level. If not, maybe they will transfer the crew in Eufaula and their supervisors somewhere far away from Eufaula.

Also maybe the trio will address the common sense of opening the campground and keeping the boat ramp closed. While they are at it, maybe the cost verses the income of full time people at the launch ramp and the campground.
