RULES:   Rules Kids Cook 2015

ENTRY FORM:   Kids Cook 2105 Entry Form

Does your child think they are the next Bobby Flay? Do you want to teach your child that cooking is not only a great life skill to have, but also fun and rewarding? Do you just want something for your kid to do on April 11th, and also get 2 admission tickets for the price of one to the Tri-State BBQ festival? If you answered yes to any of those questions, you need to participate in the 4th annual Kids Cook sponsored by Tyndall Federal Credit Union at the Houston County Farm Center in conjunction with the 10th annual Tri-State BBQ festival.

Competitors are divided into two age groups- Junior (8-12) and Senior (13-18) and will cook hamburgers for the judges. The hamburger meat and buns are provided, but any condiments, garnish or other items are the responsibility of the contestant. Also, all competitors must provide their own grill to cook on (gas or charcoal is ok. Electric grills are permitted, but electrical plugs are extremely limited and we need to know in advance if using an electric grill.).  Creativity is rewarded! Last year, some of the winning entries included “peanut butter bacon burger”, “blue cheese hot wing burger” and “celery and gorgonzola burger”. Of course, there were several “normal” style burgers who placed as well.

Trophies are awarded to the top 5 in each age group, and prize money is awarded to the top two in each division. Winners each get $100 and 2nd place receives $50 from Tyndall Federal Credit Union in addition to their trophy. Everyone who enters is really a winner though, because for a $10 entry fee, you receive 2- $10 tickets into the festival ($20 value), 1# of ground beef ($5 value), 4 buns ($1), a Tyndall Federal apron, and other goodies provided by our sponsors. Kids only have to turn in one burger, and the rest can be consumed by family and friends at the event.

Entry forms can be downloaded now at http://tristatebbq.com/competition/kids-cook/ or by calling (334) 699-1475 and we can mail you one. If your child’s school, club (4H, Scouts, etc.) or church group would like forms in bulk, please call and we can make arrangements to get those to you in February. We have several thousand copies printed up for the schools and we hope to max out our competition field this year at 50 students.

PLUS kids can watch the bicycle stunt show, see the car show, go to the Reptile Discovery Program and much more at the festival!
