Dothan, Sep. 24, 2013: It’s a small cast with a big story to tell. Southeast Alabama Community Theatre in partnership with Extendicare brings the Pulitzer Prize-winning show, Driving Miss Daisy, to the stage Nov. 12-16 at the Cultural Arts Center. Though there are only three in the cast, this much-loved story explores themes of race, prejudice, friendship and aging.
Fans of the original 1987 off-Broadway production and the 1989 movie of the same name will remember the sharp wit and touching dialogue between Daisy Werthan, an elderly white Southern Jewish woman (played by Margo Wright) and her African-American chauffeur (Chris Hutcherson), a proud, uneducated and soft-spoken black man. Daisy’s son, Boolie Werthan is played by SEACT newcomer, Joel Boyd. Author Alfred Uhry is one of the few writers to receive both an Academy Award and the Pulitzer Prize for dramatic writing.
The show is in one act and 1.5 hours. SEACT member ticket reservations are available Oct. 11th and tickets are on sale to the general public on Oct. 28th through www.SEACT.com and the SEACT office, located inside the Cultural Arts Center at 909 South St. Andrews Street in Dothan.
