Chipley Police Arrest Burglary Suspect

On October 27, 2016, the Chipley Police Department responded to Washington County School Board property of the Old Kate Smith Elementary School in regards to a break in.
While on scene officers were advised that person(s) had entered the abandoned school by force and while inside committed acts of criminal mischief. It was also reported that suspect(s) had also stolen several items from the vacant buildings.
On November 1, 2016, Officers were again dispatched to the Old Kate Smith in reference a trespasser on the property. Officers arrived on scene and discovered Randy Gene Kirkland, 31, of Chipley on the property in possession of a school board property.
The investigation lead to the discovery of stolen property from the October 27 burglary in addition to property in Kirkland’s possession at the time.
Kirkland was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail where he was charged with: FS. 810.02 Burglary of a structure (2 counts) Felony FS. 812.014 Theft (2 counts) Felony FS. 806.13 Criminal Mischief (1 count) Misdemeanor
