On January 28 the Chipley Police Department opened an investigation involving child neglect. The case was brought to the department’s attention by the Department of Children and Family Services. The investigation showed that between the dates of January 01 and January 12 Kari Miranda Sasser of Ledger Rd. Chipley and her one year old child had visited Panama City Beach. Sasser stated that after returning from the beach they visited a friend in Chipley. The child was accidently burned with hot grease while at the Chipley residence. The burn was on the child’s head and left back shoulder area. Sasser treated the child at home for the burns. On January 15, the child’s father received the child from Sasser and carried the child to the doctor for treatment of the burns. On January 16 the child was seen again by the doctor. The child was diagnosed with strep and pink eye in addition to the severe burns. On January 31 Sasser was booked into the Washington County Jail for felony child neglect.
