Community Festival Plays Role in

Local entrepreneur vows to utilize made in the USA items for upcoming festival

DOTHAN, AL- Through the tireless efforts of event organizer Kerry Farrell, at lease one festival in town will focus efforts on purchasing only “Made in America” products for it’s upcoming event. Dothan’s Oktoberfest celebration and barbecue festival, “PorktoberQue”, scheduled for September 26-27, 2014 at the Houston County Farm Center had to look a little harder to find products, but feels the effort is worth it.

“We’ve already been utilizing American Apparel for our T-shirts for this and our other event, Tri-State BBQ Festival. The shirts are made in the USA with American workers, and the quality is very good. We decided to also pursue an American manufacturer for our beer mugs and other items we purchase for the festival,” explained Farrell. “Last year we had ceramic beer steins that were made in China, but this year we are going with acrylic mugs made in the United States. That way we know that we have helped support our country, workers and economy instead of sending our money over seas.”

Other items, from plastic cups to paper plates will also be purchased from American sources when available. PorktoberQue is trying to make a concerted effort to purchase only items made in America for use and for sale at the event in 2014 and supports companies that are located in the United States. PorktoberQue also focuses its attention on helping locally as well. The event also gives thousands of dollars annualy to the Regional Land Water Rescue (non-profit group that assists sheriffs offices in locating lost or missing people), and provides free booth spaces to local non-profits who wish to utilize PorktoberQue as a fund-raising platform.
