The Dothan Fire Department is excited to announce the kick-off of a “Community Wide Coat Drive”. As we enter the colder months of the year the members of the Fire Department would like to provide a drop-off point for those citizens who would like to donate to those in need.
According to Fire Chief Larry Williams, “This is an opportunity for our firefighters to provide assistance to our community through non-traditional means”. “We know there is a significant need in our area and would like to provide an outlet to collect warm coats that can be distributed,” Williams concluded. Each of the City’s eight (8) fire stations will serve as collection points through the end of January.
Chief Williams says the Fire Department is partnering with non-profits that have the ability to distribute the coats to those in need. Additionally, the City of Dothan Environmental Services Division is providing clean, unused, cans to be placed at the front of each fire station for collection when fire crews are not in the station. According to Chief Williams, “It is important to recognize the need in our community and take positive steps to help reduce that need, particularly this time of year”.
