HOUSTON COUNTY: This morning there was a wreck on U.S. Highway 84 East and Jester Street in Cowarts.
As I responded to the scene from downtown Dothan, the fog was awful. In fact, as I approached the traffic lights at Highway 84 and the old Ace Hardware, I almost missed the light because of the fog. As I sit at the light I was watching the rear view mirror making sure the people behind me saw the light and not hit me.
When I left the accident the investigating Alabama State Trooper, Trooper Green, was not on the scene. As I was returning to Dothan the fog had lifted.
That made me think, the scene is not always the same when the investigator arrives. The conditions change.
That is a reason why you will see RSN take pictures on scenes that we will never post. Often times when we arrive, we will take pictures you never see on the web site. We forward those to the investigating officers.
When primary officers arrive on the scene, the first order of business is...getting the scene under control and a quick asssessment of the scene. At RSN when we arrive often times we will snap some pictures just to document the scene as it appears in the event they are needed later.
Today was also a realization, the weather conditions and scene conditions are often times not the same when the incident occured.
