Becky Gerritson, president and co-founder of one of Alabama’s most prolific conservative groups and Republican candidate for U.S. Congress for Alabama’s Second District, told voters today that her top priorities upon election will be the support of Alabama’s military and agricultural prominence.

“I want the people in the Wiregrass to understand that I know how important Fort Rucker is, and how important agriculture is to the Wiregrass area,” Gerritson said. “I’m a military wife and I am committed to protecting our bases and making sure we have the funding and that the strategies are in place so that our soldiers can win.”

Gerritson, who met her husband while he was on deployment with the U.S. Air Force in Germany, said she has been a lifelong proponent of military funding and that nowhere is this more important than Alabama’s Second Congressional District. Also located in the Second District are Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base in Montgomery and one of the state’s largest National Guard armories in Troy.

“Farming and agriculture plays a huge part in our economy,” she continued. “I will listen to farmers. I will fight for what they need.”

Alabama has long been famous for its rich farmlands, especially in the Wiregrass region where cattle, poultry, and produce are almost equal partners in the economy. That’s why, Gerritson said, she would request assignment to the Agriculture and Armed Services committees in the House of Representatives.

She then pointed to her primary opponent, three-term incumbent Martha Roby, and the lack of results those appointments brought for her constituents. Despite assignments to both these key committees that reflect the heart of her district, Roby left the Armed Services and Agriculture committees in favor of more “glamorous” assignments from Speaker John Boehner.

“I feel like Martha has given us lip service on some of these things, but I will do better,” Gerritson said. “Not only will I listen to my constituents, but I will fight for families. If you look at what Martha’s record has been, she’s been a member of the majority for three terms, yet our debt has increased by $4.5 trillion, Obama’s agenda has not been stopped, and establishment leaders have helped him carry out his agenda basically by waving a white flag of surrender, and I will not do that.

“I will fight to reduce the debt for our kids and grandkids so they can have a financially stable future. I will make the hard choices; I will take the tough steps. I really will hold fast to the principles that make us free and strong and prosperous not only for ourselves, but for the next generations.”

In the same interview, Gerritson also spoke about Roby’s lack of conservative credentials, her reasons for running and plan for winning, and her personal background. The entire interview can be seen on her YouTube channel “Becky For Congress.”
