Convicted and Taken Into Custody

DOTHAN:   In a case tried before Circuit Judge Mike Conaway, the defendant was ordered into the custody of the Houston County Sheriff seconds after the verdict was read.


Abralem Howard was on trial for Attempted Murder. The charges stem from an incident that occured after Howard ran from a Dothan Police Officer on a reported traffic stop on Dawson Street. While the officer was attempting to catch Howard, he circled back to his car and attempted to take off.


The Dothan Police Officer testified Howard attempted to run over him. The officer fired multiple shots towards Howard, striking him twice.


The jury did not convict Howard of Attempted Murder but convicted him of Assault 2nd degree.


The case was prosecuted by David Atwell. Howard was represented by Rebecca McCorkel.


Judge Conaway, although he ordered Howard into custody, has set a later sentencing date.
