Corp Of Engineers Slams Parks Closed For Public and Dams In Henry County On Lake Eufaula

LAKE EUFAULA:    Being consistent with ZERO customer service, the United States Army Corp of Engineers are closing many parks around Lake Eufaula for the winter months.

You will see a list which I obtained from Highland Park on Labor Day weekend. This will outline the parks which will close during the winter months.

The Eufaula Division of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers made it difficult to enjoy the lake this summer. They kept the water at a very low level making navigating very difficult. They made many people not able to enjoy their places at the lake because they could not access their docks. Some could not access their boats from the lifts because it was so shallow.

I attended a meeting of the Friends of Eufaula. The managing Corp Manager was interviewed and I tried to determine the reasoning behind their mindset on the water level. After the interview I did not know much more than before I started.

Most all of the mantainance of the parks are contracted out. The park staff will not lift a hand to even empty a garbage can.  So far my involvement with the U.S. Army Corp was aggravation from their park managers at the gate and mountains of paperwork when you visit the Clay County headquarters.

DO NOT think I am raising this issue for me. What the Corp keeps open and closes as to camp grounds will not affect me. It will affect the economy for Henry County and Lake Eufaula. It will affect the business community because fisherman that might camp or hunters that might camp will not be able to.

This evening I was contacted by a church group. Each year they have rented the picnic  area of Highland Park for a church day. Reports are they have done for the past 20 years. NO. The Corp closed that on September 4^th.

What can you do? Call the U.S. Representative Martha Roby and express your unhappiness about the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and their closing the parks in Henry County for the winter.  The call U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions. Tell them you are unhappy.

Also tell the United States Representative and United States Senator that you are unhappy about the closing of the locks at the dams. Beginning in October they plan to close the dams and stopping letting people lock thru the dam.

You really should get the correct story before you start posting comments about things you don't know. You always tell your side and not the actual truth. First Lake Eufaula is in Oklahoma and the lake at Fort Gaines is Walter F. George Lake. Maybe you should talk to congress and ask them why they don't send them more money at Walter F. George Lake. And yes lack of rain does have a lot to do with it. Maybe if you communicated with the correct people you could report the correct story.
the water level is low due to drought. not much the Corps or anyone else but God can do about that. If you think Eufaula is low you should see some other lakes in the country. And I love camping at White Oak but it closes seasonally....what this article does not say is Cotton Hill remains open year round. So, when I can't go to White Oak - I go to Cotton Hill. What's the huge deal? The government is broke - we are at war - we now how folks killing our foreign ambassadors - and we complain about having to camp at Cotton Hill? Come on folks.....God Bless America.
one reason is because there is water being diverted to atlanta
awe sre @ the mercy of Lord William Smallwood, he is the resource manager he does as he pleases and nobody tells him what to do. He has been on his throne since the early part of 1990 look @ the differences of the conditions on the lake & river befor that time & now, he has been a disaster to this area since he has been in office. Going to Congresswoman Roby is no help he lied to her face in Feb about clearing Abbie Creek and she hasn't called him out on that someone needs to put pressure where its needed, investigate what is going on instead of listening to his B/S. The starting point is replace the management then clear out the deadwood in the Corp in this area. The peasants can't do it we got to get politicians to support us which we don't have. November is coming!
Ricky why is it you make things like this an open post? This is really bad i do honestly agree. But, Why are only a very select few open to viewer to post also. I think you should allow all post to have follow up posted on. I honestly love your website and i greatly appreciate it. Since the guy who use to handle the site passed away this site has become dead. I do feel that all post should be able to be posted on. This one in my opinion only reflects on the people who can afford to fish a great deal and people who have property in Eufaula.

Does lack of rain have anything to do with the lake level?
if this article is not about why wont you post anything about the damns closing all down the river everytime the water level drops or somthing around lake eufaula happens you always have somthing bad to say about the corps. if has nothing to do with the lake you dont want to talk about it.they are closing the parks because of cut backs just like closing the damns down the river

We just gotta cut back a little, because You do know we have to spend lots of money to fly Air Force One all over the world campaigning, cover expenses of Michelle's exotic vacations and GIVE the Muslim BrotherHood one and one half Billion dollars. Face reality, you peasants have seen your best days.
