On 4-14-2015, Jackson County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area of Phillips Road and Kynesville Highway in reference to a physical disturbance. Upon arrival, Deputies made contact with three victims, one being a juvenile, and one being the defendant's, John Ellis Floyd's, co-habitat girlfriend whom is pregnant.
Upon further investigation, evidence was obtained advising that the couple had been involved in a verbal altercation that escalated when Floyd produced a handgun and threatened the victim with it. He then choked her, impeding her normal breathing and restricting her blood flow. Floyd then struck her with the blunt end of the firearm, and shot a hole in the floor to prove to the victim, it was loaded with live ammunition. The victim attempted to use a cell phone to request assistance but was unable to, due to Floyd taking the phone away from her and breaking it. A short time later, the victims sibling and niece arrived to assist her and upon coming to the front door, Floyd approached them and displayed the handgun, causing them to fear for their lives. He then lowered the handgun and advised them to get the victims belongings. Floyd placed the handgun down on a table and traveled to the bedroom where the victim was gathering her belongings. He began striking her again and at that time her sibling took custody of the handgun and the three off them exited the residence. They were followed by Floyd via a vehicle for a short time until he turned around. Contact was made with John Ellis Floyd at his residence on Phillips Road at which time he was placed under arrest and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility where he will be lodged until 1st Appearance.
