Cottonwood Man Arrested by Jackson County Sheriff's Deputies

On March 24, 2014 at approximately 0530 hours a deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Steele City BP in Cottondale in reference to a suspicious vehicle. The caller advised that a person was inside the vehicle and slumped over the steering wheel.
Upon the deputy making contact with the driver of the vehicle, the smell of burnt marijuana was coming from the vehicle and a clear plastic bag containing crystal like rocks could been seen in his jacket pocket in plain view.
When the driver of the vehicle was removed and searched due to the above mentioned items, it was discovered that the clear plastic bag contained approximately 28 grams of Crystal Methamphetamine “ICE”. Also found on his person were 7 pills which were identified as Hydrocodone.
A search of the vehicle incident to arrest did also reveal the following: Marijuana cigarette partially smoked digital scale, 2 Ecstasy pills, Xanax pill, glass smoking pipe and a shotgun.
The driver was arrested and placed into the Jackson County Jail without incident.
Arrested: Ricky Wayne Mercer 46 years old of Cottonwood, Alabama
Charges: Trafficking in Methamphetamine
Trafficking in Hydrocodone
Possession of MDMA (Ecstasy)
Possession of Controlled Substance (Xanax)
Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon
Possession of Marijuana (less than 20g)
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
