DOTHAN:    After two full days of testimony the case has been taken under advisement by Retired Supernumary Circuit Judge Denny Holloway.

This week Girard Principal Greg Yance and the Dothan Board of Education went into courtroom action over the sudden termination of Mr. Yance’s contract as a Principal.

Yance was represented by Dothan Attorney Tom Brantley. The Dothan Board of Education was represented by Dothan Attorney Jere Segrest.

Yance was attempting to prove the actions of the Dothan Board of Education was retaliation of his lawsuit against the Dothan Board of Education concerning some due process services that was needed for their son. Yance won his case against the School Board. In the suit the Dothan Board of Education was ordered to pay his attorney fees.

Yance was represented in the case involving his child by Dothan Attorney Bobbie Crook. Twenty two days after Bobbie Crook bill of $ 111,000.00 was submitted to the Dothan Board of Education, Yance’s employment contract was terminated. Yance yelled retaliation.

The Dothan School Board is appealing the decision of the court.

Before going to court the Yance's had worked to resolve the issues needed for their son. When they were unable to achieve the services needed, court was the only action available to solve the problem.

The Dothan Board of Education were making allegations that Girard has multiple issues and to many disciplinary actions in the school.  The board attempted to prove Yance was not managing the school properly.

There were about 35 persons which testified in the trial. Some testified the problems were disciplinary problems that Yance was managing. The testimony was Girard was under control because of tough management.

Girard has a lot of diversity in the school. There are a lot of factor that cause students to have issues that require discipline.

Not one time since Dr. Tim Wilder has been with the Dothan City Schools has Wilder even met with Yance over problems within the school.

The teachers of the school has shown up to support Mr. Yance. Staff of the school even went to the Dothan Board of Education Meeting.

Judge Holloway has indicated to the parties a ruling will be forthcoming in about one week.

Dothan School Supt. Tim Wilder is in his first year as school superintendent of the school systems.

In less than two years all members of the Dothan Board of Education are up for re-election.
