HOUSTON COUNTY: This week a man was arrested for unpaid fines and court costs.
$1,000.00 was paid and the receipt was shown to me.
When I looked at the receipt I was totally floored. Of the $ 1,000.00 paid, the office of Doug Valeska got $ 918.00. That is outrageous.
The Alabama Legislature needs to address the issue of funding. You are mismanagers and in the corporate world would be terminated. You are also a debtor's prison and that is suppose to be forbidden. But one in a black robe can do anything they want until challenged.
However that challenge can end you up in the same place as former Judge Steensland. Where you can not practice law anymore.
The district attorney gets funding from pre-trial diversion, hot check unit, 30% added to delinquent fees. And more.
And for them to get $ 918 of the $ 1000 paid, some legislature needs to get real and for once honest with the public.
