FT. RUCKER: We are attempting to confirm if there is a trial tonight on the base at Ft. Rucker. Our understanding is the trial will be in building 5700 at 8 PM tonight.
The trial is concerning the prosecution of Lt. Colonel Christopher Don Wood, age 45. Wood was charged with electronic solicitation of a child and felony traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act The arrest was in Clayhatchee on July 3, 2014.
The allegations were the Lieutenant Colonel was stationed at Ft. Rucker. He left the post to meet what he thought was a teenager for unlawful sex acts.
When Wood was arrested in 2014, he was transported to Daleville Police Station and booked into jail. He was then transported to Dale County Jail and booked in and bond was made.
The Army and Daleville Police conducted an investigation. Once the Army completed their investigation Wood was served with a 19 count complaint, which involved violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
Dale - Geneva County District Attorney Kirke Adams was told by Army officials that Wood could face up to 75 years in federal prison in Leavenworth Kansas if convicted on all 19 counts.
Dale County dismissed the criminal offenses against Wood with the understanding that he was going to be tried federally.
We are working to confirm the trial is tonight at 8 PM. It is very unusual for a trial to be at night.
We do know the charges existed in state court and taken up by Military. Trying to confirm the trial being tonight.
And it takes an act of congress for media to get on the military base in order to cover the trial.
