Dale County to Select Next District Judge on March 1st

With the news that long time District Judge, Fred Steagall, would not be seeking re-election, Dale County voters will select their next District Judge next Tuesday on March 1st. The choice of who fills that seat will be decided in the Republican Primary and will be between two Ozark Attorneys, Stuart K. Smith and John Nicholas Bull.

The Dale County voters should choose a person who has the experience necessary to fill this seat, as it is currently the seat that handles the juvenile court and treatment courts.  The Dale County voters should select Stuart Smith as their next District Judge.

Stuart has a tremendous amount of professional experience within the Dale County court system. He has served as special prosecutor for Ozark City Court, currently serves as the Public Defender in Midland City Court and serves as the City Judge in Pinkard, which gives him experience in managing and handling cases from the bench.

Stuart is heavily involved in the Dale County community, not only professionally, but also through his commitment to various civic organizations. It is clearly evident that Stuart strongly cares for his fellow wiregrass community members through his service to our youth on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Ozark, his work with the Dale County Board of Directors of the Wiregrass United Way, Past President of the Ozark Rotary Club, service on the criminal justice advisory board at Wallace Community College, and currently sits on the Executive Committee of the Dale County Republican Party.

Not only has Stuart handled and tried numerous juvenile delinquency and juvenile dependency cases before the juvenile court, but he volunteers a lot of his time to our youth and their programs.  Through his work on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Alabama, he has received the “Champion of Youth” award on several occasions and also has received the “National Service to Youth Award.”  Stuart also volunteers some of his Saturdays as a volunteer referee for Aim Higher Hoops, which is a youth basketball program through First United Methodist Church in Ozark.  He also serves as the color analyst for the Carroll High School Radio crew which covers and broadcast Carroll High School football games on Friday nights.

Stuart, on several occasions, has expressed his passion and desire to actively work, not only through the juvenile court, but to work with the county schools in order to better shape and improve the attitudes and actions of a lot of our youth.  Dale County needs a Judge who will work to help set our out of control youth back on the right track.  Dale County needs someone who will be fair but firm. That person is Stuart Smith.
