MONTGOMERY: Today Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson was invited to Montgomery to attend the VOCAL meeting. The Sheriff was invited to speak at the conference.
To the surprise of Sheriff Olson, Alabama Governor Robert Bentley showed up. While Governor Bentley was there, he and Dale - Geneva County District Attorney Kirke Adams made a presentation to Sheriff Olson has "VOCAL'S OFFICER OF THE YEAR".
The award was presented the Sheriff Olson for his work and professionalism in the administration of his duties of Dale County Sheriff, in particular his management of Operation Ethan when he was held in the bunker.
Sheriff Olson, a very humble man, will not allow people to give him the credit. Sheriff Olson is quick to tell you the operation Rescue Ethan was a joint operation of multiple agencies and personnel. The operation consisted of multiple city - county - state and federal law enforcement agencies, multiple fire and rescue agencies. Emergency Management agencies, and support agencies. It was the effort of the community, Salvation Army and Red Cross, churches and citizens. An entire community effort.
This past Sunday Sheriff Olson spoke in Dothan to the 16th Annual Candlelight Observance of National Crime Victim's Rights week. The event was held at First Presbyterian Church in Dothan. The National Crime Victim's Rights Week is April 21 - 27, 2013.
Congratulations to Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson and the entire men and women of the Dale County Sheriff Department, and area law enforcement, fire, EMS and support agencies.
