Dancin' Dave Peanut Statue Dedicated In Headland

HEADLAND:     This morning at 10 AM on the square in Headland, many friends came together to dedicate the Peanut Statue to Dancin' Dave.

There were many friends present to include Headland Mayor Ray Marlor and Retired Dale County Sheriff Byrant Mixon.

Dancin' Dave was present. He danced a  little and sang a song for those present.

Dancin' Dave is a wiregrass icon. He would be seen all around walking in his white outfit with his Navy style hat on. He would always smile and dance a few steps for people as they stopped to talk of honked as they passed him walking.

Dancin' Dave is getting feeble as he grows older like all of us. But he is a icon to the community.

A group of friends started a FACEBOOK page which quickly grew to 5,000 friends and maxed out. They have now started a celebrity page to share some stories and Dave's adventures in life.

It quickly grew that friends both on Facebook and off gathered about $ 5,000 to build the peanut. The Mayor and Town Council of Headland quickly agreed to place it on the square in Headland next to the Judicial Center building.

Today most all of the media was present for the dedication.
