Dancing Dave” Whatley, a resident of Dothan, and one of the most beloved figures in the Wiregrass,  went to be with his heavenly Father,  Monday afternoon, September 21, 2015, in a Dothan hospital. He was 88.


            Homegoing services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 25, 2015, in the Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, in Headland, with Pastor Delvick McKay and Pastor Willie E. Bonds officiating. Words of comfort will be given by his sister, Lillie Bonds. Burial will follow in the Memory Hill Cemetery, Highway 52, Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 A.M. Friday in the church sanctuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Holman-Headland Mortuary, P.O. Box 205, Headland, Alabama 36345, for funeral expenses.


            “Dancing Dave” was born in Headland, son of the late Dave Woodruff Whatley and Catherine Pouncey Whatley. He lived in Slocomb most of his lifetime before moving to Dothan in 1997. He was honored by the City of Headland, the Downtown Group and plenty of family and friends with the unveiling of a fiberglass Peanut in his image, complete with white suit, parade gloves and hat, with “DAVE” in big black letters, across from the town square in Headland. Dave was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.


            Surviving relatives include a sister, Lillie Rene Bonds, Dothan; a brother, Horace Whatley (Lula), Kinsey; many nieces and nephews.



            Serving as active pallbearers will be the nephews
