The City of Clanton, which allegedly ran a "debtor's prison" in conjunction with a private probation company, has ended its contract with the firm on the heels of a Southern Poverty Law Center lawsuit.



Correction Services had a contract with Clanton for the past six years that allowed the firm to collect a $10 set-up fee and a $40 monthly fee from every debtor the Clanton Municipal Court steered to the firm, according to the lawsuit the SPLC filed against the city in March.
