Defuniak Springs Man Arrest for Causing a Crash Damaged Two Destin businesses

A Defuniak Springs man who reportedly didn’t want to leave Harborwalk Village in Destin last night is charged by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office with causing a crash that damaged two Destin businesses. 23-year old Clinton Humphreys is charged with DUI, careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damages. Deputies were called to the scene around 11:30 p.m. Thursday after Humphreys climbed into the front seat of a friend’s red SUV as they were heading east on Highway 98. They say he then grabbed the steering wheel, and hit the gas. The car went off the road and hit a support cable for a utility pole. It traveled on and struck the north wall of the Olin Marler Charters Building at 102 Harbor Boulevard. The car then went across a private driveway and hit the west wall of Florida House Restaurantat 104 Harbor Boulevard. Friends say they had a designated driver, but Humphreys did not want to leave. After the crash, a deputy found Humphreys hiding nearby. Deputies say Humphreys’ blood alcohol level registered.192 and .183 two hours after the crash.
