The Tri-State BBQ Festival now has a dessert contest that qualifies the winner to compete in the 2016 World Food Championships in Orange Beach, Alabama November 8-15.  ( https://worldfoodchampionships.com/news/555/wfc-announces-relocation-with-a-big-dash-of-salt#st_refDomain=www.facebook.com&st_refQuery=/ )

Competition fee is $25 to enter the Dothan Eagle Dessert Competition and you may enter only once. (Husbands and wives or other family members may enter separately though.) You provide your own ingredients and method of cooking. All desserts must be prepared on site, Friday April 8, 2016 at the Houston County Farm Center. Space will be given to contestants not on BBQ competition teams (please let us know your space requirements and power needs), and two admission passes per entry will be provided for the festival . Turn in time for the dessert is 7:45 p.m.  on Friday April 8, with awards being presented at 5:35 on Saturday April 9. You can download an entry form here:

There will be one winner, selected by the panel of judges. This winner will receive $250 cash and be eligible to compete in the 2016 World Food Championships Dessert Finals in Orange Beach, AL. The WFC’s are a televised cooking competition that offered $300,000.00 in prize money in 2015 to winners. This competition is open to both professional and amateur cooks with no division of contestants.

Scoring is based on the EAT system: Execution, Appearance and Taste. Five (5) samples (bite sized or bigger) for judges are to be turned in as well as one whole dessert for photographs. See the example given to us for sandwiches to understand one “presentation” plate and 5 smaller samples.  Plates will be returned to competitors after judging, and will be available on the turn in table after 8:30 p.m. Friday. More details will be sent with your confirmation letter.

NO IDENTIFYING MARKINGS ON DESSERT OR PLATES. Questions about the  Dessert Competition? Call (334) 699-1475 to get an answer! Upon registration, further information and updates will be supplied to competitors via email or phone. People not competing in the BBQ event will be mailed cooking space assignments and tickets via postal mail.
