ELBERTA, Alabama - According to WKRG-TV: A female suspect is in custody for an incident at Elberta Elementary School on Wednesday afternnon.
The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office says all students and teachers are safe and accounted for. Law enforcement are currently working with school administrators on an orderly release of students to their parents.
Contrary to early reports, officials are now saying the woman never fired any shot from the gun she brought into the school cafeteria.
Sources tell News 5 that an agitated woman approached the school's cafeteria door, banging for someone to let her in. The woman, who was obviously distressed, was looking for her sister, News 5 is told.
The woman was let inside the cafeteria, at which point she displayed the gun. The suspect then proceeded to bang on doors and glass windows with her gun, which witnesses told police sounded like gun shots.
The source tells News 5 there were markings on the doors and windows that originally appeared to be caused by bullets, but investigators who searched the building have said there is no evidence that any shots were fired.
The school is under lockdown as police continue to investigate what exactly happened. Authorities have said no one was injured or killed in the incident.
