COTTONWOOD: Cottonwood Police were in a routine check into the personal vehicles of the students vehicles that were parked in the parking lot of Cottonwood School. The Cottonwood Police found some materials in the private vehicle of a student.
Because all vehicles in the premises of the school are subject to the search by school staff or law enforcement, they police exercised that authority and entered the private auto of a student.
Material was found, some of which is UNOFFICIALLY reported to have been fireworks. That search of the private vehicle led the Cottonwood Department of Public Safety and the Dothan Police Bomb Squad to a residence.
Houston County Sheriff Deputies responded. They were informed the Cottonwood Department of Public Safety was equipped to handle and had the situation under control.
THE STUDENTS WERE NOT IN DANGER AND AN OFFICER ON THE SCENE REPORTED TO ME THE STUDENTS WERE NOT ON LOCKDOWN.
The Cottonwood Department of Public Safety Director Colonel Jim Smith is on the scene with the Dothan Police Bomb Truck at a residence on Highway 55 South.
Nothing was found in the search of the residence that caused any alarm.
NOTE: There was no event in this matter where threats were made. No events where this child in question was any danger. And a search of his room did not lead to a find of anything suspicious.
The search was routine where officers are looking for anything suspicious.
All is OKAY with this child so DO NOT let what has happened cause any alarm towards this child.
In today's society, sometimes ADULTS have forgotten they passed through childhood to make the arrival of an adult with NO common sense.
