UPDATED @ 12:24 AM
This accident was a two vehicle accident in Holmes County Florida. The accident involved entrapment and one fatality.
One vehicle in the accident was a Ford Expedition which overturned in the accident. The second vehicle went into the woods.
Bonifay Fire-Rescue responded to the scene and was the first fire/rescue unit on the scene. With the assistance of Ponce De Leon Fire Department the patient was extricated from the wreckage.
The Westville Fire Department prepared the landing zone for AirHeart to land on the scene and transport the most critical patients by air.
The accident involved several patients requiring medical treatment and/or transporting to a medical facility.
This evenings accident was somewhat chaotic. With all of the traffic on I-10 and the number of patients, in addition to the medical professionals on the scene, some citizens bailed from their vehicles and assisted the professionals with the handling and manpower ( lifting ) of patients from the ground to the stretcher and or medical transport units.
WHAT EACH AND EVERYONE IS IN IT FOR
This accident, as described to me by on lookers, is what emergency service and citizen assistance is all about. All focus on the patients and working to save lives.
While it is unfortunate that one life was lost, from the description of the accident others could have been. From the ground transport medical units like Bonifay Fire - Rescue, Ponce De Leon Fire and Westville Fire, AirHeart, the 911 operators which took the calls and got the adequate help and assistance rolling, to the law enforcement of the Holmes County Sheriff Department and Florida Highway Patrol. HATS OFF TO YOU.
It sounds like when the 911 calls came in "EMERGENCY SERVICES - WHAT IS YOUR EMERGENCY? All carried out their assignments with precision and an assisting public.
Our prayers are with the injured and thanks for all each emergency responder does.
