POINT CLEAR AL: “ none of their damned business” is what one elected District Attorney wants to say to the voters of Alabama.
Today we crashed the association meeting of the Alabama District Attorneys. We learned a lot, and that was some of the arrogance of some of your elected prosecutors of this state.
The association Executive Director Randy Hillman and Alabama Governor Bob Riley were already in plans. Riley’s office sent out a press released announcing a press conference at today’s Point Clear Resort meeting. Riley then cancelled the press conference citing a schedule problem.
What we learned was different than Riley’s excuse for cancellation. It was that Hillman could not get a resolution from the body of district attorneys in support of Governor Riley.
Hillman did announce to the members that Riley’s Finance Director wanted the District Attorneys to know, if you have spent any money on prosecuting electronic bingo, gambling or “crap” in your county, Governor Riley will reimburse those costs. The estimated expenditure so far is $ 280,000.00. Hillamn wants estimates even if over estimated.
Hillman warned the district attorneys...media outside. That is when one DA quipped they would tell them “ none of your damned business”.
We warned Saturday in a article, Justice of politics. That Hillman, Riley and Barbers attempt today would be to help Attorney General hopeful Luther Strange. Well, Strange, as you can see in the picture, was present at the meeting. We were told it was for DA’s only and we could not go in, but they allowed Strange in.
Governor Riley’s Task Force man, David Barber was present for the meeting.
There you have it...the DA Association has failed to endorse Governor Riley’s plans.
